The Dr. Daniel E. Walker Summer Learning Institute is designed give educational professionals the skills, insight, and wisdom needed to create a learning and work environment where students, parents, and employees of African descent thrive.
Contextualized by the victory of the American Civil Rights Movement and the expressive culture of the American South, the five-day learning experience combines vibrant lectures, historic site visits, and deep cultural immersions.
This conscious engagement of multiple learning styles and an emphasis on experiential learning are key points in the Dr. Walker pedogical model.
In addition to a full day devoted to STEM, an institute band and choir (show us what you got Visual and Performing Arts folk), and one-of-a-kind excursions, the institute is designed to re-energize seasoned educational professionals and to give new teachers the support needed to be great!
The Rosa Parks Museum-Located in downtown Montgomery, the site is the nation's only museum dedicated American icon Rosa Parks. In addition to primary source materials and artifacts related to Ms. Parks, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the Civil Rights Movement, the museum also provides educational programs and scholarly resources for K-12, adult, and lifelong learners.
